National Margarita Day, and Other Amazing Made-Up Holidays

holidaysWe’ve all seen it – the flurry of photos and social media posts that accompany “National (insert theme here) Day.”

A recent one that filled our social media feed was “National Siblings Day,” which had everyone posting photos of their siblings from yester-year, with messages of endearment about their family brood.

So what does this have to do with marketing?

Simply put, it is marketing.

While National Siblings Day may not have an obvious marketing impact, there are plenty of “National Days” that do.

National Cheese Day, for example, was certainly the invention of a cheese or dairy company that was looking for a way to get people to celebrate their product.

National Margarita Day? –  Hello tequila companies!

While the food correlations can certainly be obvious, there are also many “National” days that relate to specific nonprofits, such as National Breast Cancer Awareness Day, or National Volunteer Day.

So what does this have to do with your business?

These “holidays” can be fantastic spring boards for your company’s marketing communications.

Whether it’s throwing a National Margarita Day mixer or getting your firm involved with a humanitarian day such as National Volunteer Day, planning marketing events (for internal or external audiences) around national “holidays” is a great way to get people involved.

Or, on an even on a simpler level, connecting with your clients/customers by incorporating  these “holidays” on your own blogs, social media, and marketing efforts can be a fun way to engage people – I mean everyone loves cheese, right?!
